Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader and Chief Minister Hemant Soren is currently leading with a margin of nearly 40,000 votes from the Barhait seat in the ongoing Assembly elections in the state, data from the Election Commission showed on Saturday.
As per the trends at 4.05 pm, the chief minister had secured 94,840 of the total votes counted. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Gamliyel Hembrom trailed behind with 55,424 votes.

In Gandey, Hemant Soren’s wife, Kalpana Soren, was leading with over 13,000 votes. While Kalpana Soren secured 1,11,618 of the total votes counted, the BJP’s Muniya Devi was trailing behind with 98,562 votes.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha candidate Basant Soren, who is Hemant Soren’s brother, won in the Dumka Assembly seat. Basant Soren secured 95,685 votes and BJP candidate Sunil Soren came in second after receiving 81,097 votes.
Overall, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led alliance is on course to retain power in the state, leading in 57 of the 81 seats in the state’s Assembly election results.
While the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha was leading in 33 seats, the Congress was ahead in 17 and the Rashtriya Janata Dal in five constituencies. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) was leading in two seats.
